چکیده

Background: Para nasal sinuses are air-filled cavities present in facial bones. Sinusitis is a common medical problem affecting millions of people annually. CT screening paranasal has the advantages showing bony details and good soft tissue outlines. valuable identification variations pneumatisation sphenoid characterization prior to FESS trans-sphenoidal surgeries. Materials Methods: This was cross-sectional study conducted at Dr. PSIMS & RF, Chinnavutapalli. done on SIEMENS SOMATOM EMOTION 16 slice spiral machine. We included total 100 patients clinically diagnosed with chronic sinusitis, who were referred for scan PNS our hospital. Results: Out patients, 52 males 48 females. Most 20-30 years age group comprising 55% population. Presellar type found (83%), Postsellar (11%). Pneumatisation pterygoid process (42%), anterior clinoid (28%), greater wing (22%). Bilateral protrusion internal carotid artery (19 cases), right side (5 cases) left (3 cases). Protrusion optic nerve noted 21 cases, among these 14 bilaterally, (4) N (3) side, maxillary (16 8 (bilaterally), (5) Vidian (20 (8) (7) side. Conclusion: Computed Tomography plays an important role visualization variation sinus its patterns re-emphasized concept that especially region key factor causation accidental damage vital structures like ICA, Optic nerve, Maxillary nerve.

Anatomic variations of sphenoid sinus from Cone Beam Computed Tomography images in the Iranian population

Aims: Sphenoid sinus is one of the most inaccessible paranasal sinus, and is closely correlated to many vascular and neural structures. Anatomic variation of the sphenoid sinus can complicate surgery in this area. The aim of the present investigation was to define the sphenoid sinus variations and the relevant structures using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: This cross-sectiona...

The anatomical variations in the neurovascular relations of the sphenoid sinus: an evaluation by coronal computed tomography.

AIM The sphenoid sinus is deeply situated in the skull and is the least accessible paranasal sinus. The sphenoid sinus is surrounded by vital structures such as the optic nerve and internal carotid artery, and therefore additional radiological assessment of the sphenoid sinus and the related neurovascular structures is inevitable before surgery. The aim of this study was to note the anatomic va...

Foreign body within sphenoid sinus: multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) demonstration.

Trans-nasal sphenoid sinus foreign body is a rare condition. We report a case of trans-nasal gun bullet within the sphenoid sinus with breach of the floor of the sella turcica. A 42-year-old soldier presented a few weeks after a gun battle with a history of headache. The skull x-ray demonstrated a foreign body in the region of sphenoid sinus and sella. Multidetector-row CT with multiplanar refo...

Quantitative computer-aided computed tomography analysis of sphenoid sinus anatomical relationships.

BACKGROUND This study describes a novel computer-generated anatomic symmetry plane as a framework for the quantitative description of sphenoid sinus anatomy. The aim of this study was to (1) determine relationships and distances between a midline sphenoid reference point (called the central sphenoid point [CSP]) and lateral sphenoid wall structures and (2) assess the incidence of anterior clino...

Assessment of sphenoid sinus related anatomic variations with computed tomography

INTRODUCTION Frequent and broad application of endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) in parallel with experience makes it imperative to know the anatomy and the existing pathology very well before surgery. This study examines the association between anomalies in the sphenoid sinus area in paranasal sinuses computed tomography (PNS-CT) and pathological findings and determines variations of sphenoid sin...
